Peek behind the curtains

I'll be posting various in-flight work that happens here, so that I can help demystify some of what goes into making an audio production at the scale of Heartglass. I don't profess to be an expert on any of this, so if you have ideas, suggestions, or just want to tell me I'm wrong, you can do so by clicking on one of the social links on the footer.

Keep in mind, all works are in progress unless they are marked as completed. Thanks for checking it out!

  • Watch me build a pitch deck.

I built a pitch deck when Joseph Rutledge and I were shopping his upcoming audio drama The Dope Show. I found that even without an episode, it helped us convey the overall mood, style and substance of what we were creating. It also helped showcase some of the cooler things we had on that production (like an actor with some high acclaim and a phenomenal musical landscape).

Even though I have audio for Heartglass, there is so much more in the forthcoming episodes that should be highlighted. Also, not everyone has the time to listen to a 35-40 minute episode, so having something that takes a fraction of that time to browse through can be very helpful, especially when reviewing and/or discusssing the project with new people.

I'll be making daily updates to this deck as I complete it, roughly around 11 PM EST. At the end, I'll do a brief write-up on the process so everyone has a chance to understand the choices I made and the process I followed better.

So come along on this process with me. It should be fun. First, a brief discussion of the tools I'm using:

    • Shutterstock/Adobe Stock (some stock photo/video provider, even a free option like Pexels works)
    • Photoshop (Affinity and Gimp are cheaper alternatives)
    • Illustrator (again, Affinity has a cheaper, perpetual-license option here)
    • After Effects (only necessary if you're doing video)
    • A font resource database such as dafont.com
